Synopsis
In a future where a mysterious virus has altered human behavior, an unusual biological connection brings together Wu Nongyu, a warm-hearted bioengineering student, and Xie Xinxu, a man whose lack of empathy makes him both unsettling and dangerous. Their lives first intersect five years earlier when Nongyu accompanies her brother, Wu Siyuan, a police officer, to a murder scene. Xinxu is suspected of involvement in the crime, but their encounter awakens an inexplicable attraction in him that quickly becomes an obsessive desire to possess her.
Years later, Xinxu finds a way to enter Nongyu's life again. Hiding behind the identity of a reserved medical professor named Gu Yanqing, he carefully engineers opportunities to get closer to her. Rather than revealing his true intentions, he attempts to guide their interactions toward the romantic relationship he wants, believing he can make her fall for him on his own terms.
However, Nongyu is not as easy to manipulate as he expects. As their relationship develops, the boundaries between calculated seduction, genuine affection, and dangerous obsession begin to blur. Nongyu must decide how much she can trust the man pursuing her, while Xinxu faces feelings he has little experience understanding or controlling.
Their connection is further complicated by the effects of the virus, which can influence the behavior of those infected and intensify the possessive impulses some experience toward people with a different strain. As the pair become entangled in a world of hidden motives and biological mysteries, their relationship forces them to confront an unsettling question: if attraction can be shaped by something beyond their control, can the love that grows from it ever truly be their own?
As secrets emerge and danger closes in, both must navigate the difference between wanting someone and respecting their freedom. What begins as an encounter neither can explain becomes a test of trust, personal choice, and whether a man who struggles to understand other people's emotions can learn to love without treating the person he desires as something to possess.
Major Character List
Wu Nongyu (Fang Jin)
Wu Nongyu is a warm, bright, and determined bioengineering graduate student whose life becomes entangled with Xie Xinxu after their chance meeting at a crime scene. Her unusual biological connection to him appears to trigger an intense response in him, drawing her into circumstances she does not fully understand. Although Xinxu tries to steer their relationship according to his own plans, Nongyu has her own mind and resists being treated as someone whose feelings can simply be controlled. Her role is central to the story's exploration of love, trust, and personal agency.
Xie Xinxu / Gu Yanqing (Cui Yuxin)
Xie Xinxu is a man suspected of murder who exhibits a profound lack of empathy and an intense, possessive fixation on Wu Nongyu. Five years after their first encounter, he assumes the identity of Gu Yanqing, a restrained medical professor, to approach her again. Accustomed to planning his actions and pursuing what he wants, he initially treats romance as something he can carefully orchestrate. His growing attachment to Nongyu challenges his understanding of emotions and forces him to confront the difference between possessing someone and genuinely caring for them.
Wu Siyuan (Wang Yijun)
Wu Siyuan is Nongyu's brother and a police officer whose investigation brings her to the crime scene where she first encounters Xie Xinxu. His connection to the investigation places him at the intersection of Nongyu's personal life and the dangerous events surrounding Xinxu. As Nongyu's brother, he is an important link between her ordinary life and the mystery that gradually unfolds around her unusual connection with Xinxu.
